BIOGRAPHY

Sarah of Sarah’sINCOGNITO is a London born, Los Angeles based artist. Her poignant style and beautiful iconic images capture the raw and powerful voice emerging from the perspective of delicate femininity. The pop aesthetics mixed with subtle nuances and deliberate allusions, challenge the viewer to think and connect, to the reality of the world around us, as well as how one dreams it could be.
Sarah’s love and respect for fine art came at the early age of 14, when she taught herself to paint, by replicating the master works of Degas ballerinas. The timeless beauty and grace of Degas’ classic dancers symbolized her innocent perspective and ephemeral youth. She was fascinated by the discipline and combination of gentle fragility mixed with powerful precision; the ballerinas would set the tone of how she perceives the world, and continue to be the underlying theme in the foundation of Sarah’sINCOGNITO. This obsession and inspiration of performance art forefather Yves Klein, would later lead the artist to creating her signature Ballerina Performance Art, comprised of ballerinas stepping in paint on pointe shoes and dancing on canvas.
Sarah had the opportunity to work in conjunction with the LAUSD and directed a crew to complete her first public mural by age 16. Though the custom designed, public mural was based on a math equation for a “Tessellation”, she found a way to incorporate her then signature metallic silver stars into the design, and still be within the guidelines of the commission, establishing the importance of permission, branding, and self advertising.
Another artist who has had tremendous influence in Sarah’s life is Salvador Dali. Pop surrealism applied to painting, photography, and installations, has allowed her to explore the avant garde, and go deeper into discovering the symbolism of her decadent fantastical world, Sarah’sINCOGNITO. The artist has learned to blur the line between her work and reality, to create a world where art is reality and reality is art. She has experimented with different mediums such as fabrics directly sewn on to the canvas, used semi- precious stones to make 2 dimensional images come alive, and has even incorporated her own artwork into photo shoots to recreate versions of her world Sarah’sINCOGNITO. Her ongoing Self Portraits Collection has been key in documenting a glimpse of the artist’s vulnerability, and gives access to the surreal world she lives in.
Christo is also another artist who has sparked Sarah’s love and style of grandiose, large-scale public projects. Unlike instantaneous photography, the respect and admiration for public installations comes from the detailed precision of projects coming together and finding beauty in the weathering/life of each installation. The process of delivering visions, so they can be presented exactly the way they were meant to be, has always been a fascination and constant work in progress for the artist. Christo’s work has changed the way Sarah views even current movements such as Street Art, not limiting it to the traditional perspective, but challenging her to accept a concept and morph it into a poignancy and expression of her own.
Monuments and positive public installations like the Eiffel Tower, Chagall’s Paris Opera House Ceiling, Christo’ s The Gates and Chris Burden’s Urban Lights, whether temporary or permanent, has evolved the artist’s scale of the way she views her campaigns and messages.
Sarah has learned to express her unique style by teaching herself from classic masters such as Monet, Degas, Dali, Klimt, and Chagall. She is also inspired by contemporary artists such as Ai Weiwei, Eleanor Antin, Jeff Koons, Cindy Sherman and David LaChapelle, finding specific elements that introduce an idea or a technique, that can then be applied to social and political commentaries.
Sarah’s ability to reinterpret concepts to the general public, while still expressing her signature style and vision has always brought her commercial viability. The artist has launched a Vintage Jewelry and Photography line at Fred Segal, worked with fashion trade shows curating art for public spaces such as the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, participated in a month long Hello Kitty celebration with Sanrio at Royal T doing live art installations and eventually presented her own Sarah’sINCOGNITO Pop- up "The Show". Her image has graced the invitation for the first all woman’s Street Art show at Lab Art Gallery and set the tone for this momentous occasion. She was asked to anchor and donate a permanent mural as well as headline the women’s art show “Street Preachers” for the Center for the Arts Eagle Rock, funded by the Los Angeles County Arts Commission and the Pasadena Art Alliance. The artist has also painted and donated a 10 ft Elton John "Tiny Dancer" Gibson Guitar sculpture, in collaboration with Gibson Foundation, The City of Weho, Jaguar/Hornburg, Sunset Strip Association and Jack Daniels, which will later be auctioned at Bonhams. Recently, Sarah was commissioned, and donated a 45ft long impressionist mural of Los Angeles and it's hills, to The Starlight Children's Foundation, with Michael's as the sponsor.
Sharing her art and successfully meeting the demands of the public has been deeply gratifying and continually drives the artist to explore the myriad ways her vision can be translated.
