"STREET PREACHERS" - An All Female Los Angeles Street Art Exhibition
http://facultycrew.blogspot.com/2012/09/street-preachers-all-female-street-art.html

With an opening reception on September 6th, 2012 at The Center for the Arts Eagle Rock, I had the immense pleasure to meet and greet each of these female street artists. It was a great chance to talk to these leading ladies and to take a gander of the world through their creative and special perspective. Each piece was unique to each own and at times provided a softer and warm side to Los Angeles street art, all while not compromising on their street edge.
Street Preachers artists include: Kym from the famed LA graffiti crew CBS, Jules Muck, London born artist Sarah'sINCOGNITO, the ever so talented and always entertaining Annie Preece aka Love, Annie and is curated by Ashleigh Summer, who is also a featured artist.
Street Preachers is on view from September 6th to 27th, 2012 and is made possible by The Pasadena Arts Alliance and the Los Angeles County Arts Commission in conjunction with the Center of the Arts Eagle Rock and is located at 2225 Colorado Blvd. Los Angeles, Ca.90041.

JULES MUCK, ANNIE PREECE, SARAH'SINCOGNITO & KYM CBS Prep for a Monster Art Show in Eagle Rock TOMORROW!!!
http://www.paperpaintandpaste.com/2012/09/jules-muck-annie-preece-saras-incognito.html

The Center for the Arts Eagle Rock along with Pasadena Art Alliance and the Los Angeles County Art Commission have tapped four of LA's top female street artists to show their take on the world in an all female art show that opens this Thursday night.
The artists involved, Jules Muck, Annie Preece, Sarah'sINCOGNITO and Kym CBS, will each display a body of their gallery work. The ladies were also given 8'5" x 6'5" movable walls to paint murals on that will come together to form a giant group installation. Having seen some of these girls work a wall in person, this is something you won't want to miss.
The show, curated by Ashleigh Sumner, seems to have a different feel to it than your average art show. The artists involved seem to have a lot of creative control as well as the full support of all who are putting this together. It almost seems like it is a personal challenge for each artist to show her stuff and judging by the pics sent to me by Muck and Preece, these girls have met the challenge and then some. Proving that women can not only hang with the boys, they can raise the bar and take the art to a different level all their own.
Although this show runs from September 6th through the 27th I wouldn't want to miss opening night. From what I hear it will be the place to be for anyone involved in the street art community here in Los Angeles. The event will be catered by 4 Cafe and some sick beats by a DJ Carmen Rizzo. There will be pieces for sale by each artist and if you are a collector of street art you won't want to miss this opportunity to pick up a piece from one of these ladies who no doubt will be talked about years from now! Here are some action shots...

Why Lab Art is Important
http://www.paperpaintandpaste.com/2012/02/why-lab-art-is-important.html

Vincent Van Gogh sold only one of his over 900 paintings in his life time. People didn't understand his work at the time, there fore, they didn't know how to appreciate it. I'll bet if he had Iskander Lemseffer and Rachel Joelson around, he probably would have sold a lot more and may have been able to enjoy his celebrity for a while before he died. Lemseffer and Joelson are the brother sister duo that founded Lab Art, the largest art gallery in the country solely devoted to street art. Lab Art is 6,500 square feet of space and opened it's doors in May of 2011. It has quickly become the most popular place to go to view and buy street art.
Even with the recent main stream success of artists such as Banksy, Mr. Brainwash and Shepard Fairey, Street art is still viewed by many as vandalism done by degenerates and not a viable form of artistic expression. What Lab Art does, in my opinion, is put the work in a neutral setting and shows the artists many talents that they can't always display on the streets. Also, The many solo artist shows that Lab Art hosts allow people to meet the artists themselves and find out a little bit about them, essentially letting the public have a chance to care about the artist which can lead the individual to appreciate the artist's work and finally see them as exactly that... artists.
The Line Up:
Chad Muska, Jules Muck, Alec Monopoly, Desire Obtain Cherish,Smear, AJL, Destroy All Design, KH No.7, Swift, Lydia Emily, Thank You X, Sarah'sINCOGNITO, Mar, Army of One/JC2, Dog Byte, Felix, Jay Shogo, CYRCLE, Philip Lumbang, Gregory Siff, SEPTERHED, LOUISXXX, Rabi, Carl Paoli, DD'$, CANTSTOPGOODBOY, Silver Buck, Bon Bon Nielsen, Cali Killa, Becca, Kai, Maggot, LoudLabs, Teacher, Stu Rad, Carly Wise, ADVTRS, Fragile, E, Miky Frabega, Xvala, Common Cents, Annie Preece, Benjamin Alejandro, Lori Mcmichael, Meex one.
If you know the work of these artists you know that that is like having an All Star squad for your everyday team. Whats great about them and other street artists not on this list is they encourage each other to take street art to another level and are competitively supportive of one another as well. That is rare in a city where most people seem to only want equality with their superiors and will stab you in the back for 2 lines in an after school special.
Lab Art celebrates the creative spirit that is street art and is important to the growth, respect and understanding of the art form. Hat's off to Iskander Lemseffer and Rachel Joelson! Lab Art makes a difference.

Worüber man spricht - Street-Art (translated)

After graffiti appeared in first rap video, the youth movement was unstoppable worldwide. The graffiti artists in Los Angeles with her skateboard scene, the surfers of Venice and Santa Monica led the New York Wild Style artistic continue with the inflated, intermingling letters. Street art evolved from graffiti art. While graffiti artists are taking a wall with their spray paint, street artists play with their environment and allow their work to be part of it.They often carry a political or socially critical message with which even now can make money. Today shows how someone working in the Los Angeles Alec Monopoly his greed for money and banking crisis commenting male from the Monopoly game in one of the residences of Donald Trump - the real live version of a Monopoly player. Or he sold one of his works for $ 20,000 at an art fair in Hollywood star Adrien Brody. Alec's motives that he is happy to illegally high on billboards or walls in luxury places like Beverly Hills, have become icons of the city. "It is as if one welcomes the Monopoly Men with open arms," the artist says in surprise.
His colleague, who born in 1970, Shepard Fairey, who runs on Sunset Boulevard an advertising and design agency, put the "Hope" campaign poster new standards for political street art. While Fairey was convicted of a guerrilla campaign to two years probation, his works are in the collections of major museums. Because he and his street art operates lively critique of consumer society on the other hand verbandeln of his agency with big companies like Nike or Coca-Cola can, Fairey must listen to harsh criticism from within the ranks. "For me, art is a form of communication," says Fairey, "it is more important to me to communicate issues that are close to my heart, but to serve a small elite group of people."
Street art is that it is in Los Angeles so you could push through, for many reasons: The city stretches into the distance and offers a blank canvas the same, endless possibilities. Also the limits of art as disclosed in the current West Coast residents are stuck as closely as in New York. Even if graffiti and street art pioneers like Keith Haring were lined originally to free art from the gallery system and the museum culture, today's representatives feel both on the road and in the art business at home. With "LABART" started on La Brea Avenue in LA, the largest gallery in the U.S., showing only street art. One of the first exhibitions were devoted to artists of the scene are represented with names like Sarah'sIncognito or Jules Muck. Another reason for the growing street art community is that the city of the stars also attracts artists with big egos. Of operating under the name Mr. Brainwash Thierry Guetta, who was known by the rotated by Banksy Oscar-nominated documentary "Exit through the Gift Shop", held in late 2011 in Hollywood, the second edition of the hit show "Life is Beautiful" from. Guetta and his team completed several floors of a warehouse with inspired pop art works. It does not go to him to run the business, protested the artist: "If I have inspired just one person, to follow their dreams, it makes me happy."
Despite large-scale actions such as this occasionally steal international stars to local colleagues the show. Including Guetta's cousin, the French Space Invader, who with his style similar to the video game "Space Invaders" mosaics decorated whole buildings. The Frenchman JR brought under the project "LA Free Walls", the downtown Los Angeles in a unique street-art park will be transformed, "Wrinkles of the City" in the city: portrait photos that he shot of old people in LA and in all her wrinkled honesty about facades moved. In the slums of Brazil, he had already shown political brisantere work, but these black and white images were processed his personal commentary on the Hollywood industry and the natural course of life without plastic surgery or the computer star portraits.
One of the most effective actions gave the LA artist Saber. In protest of the decline since 2002 in Los Angeles issued regulations that made it difficult for private individuals and companies, artists to grant a permit for murals, Saber was by air his views as "Art is not a crime" writing in the sky. He organized a petition drive to mitigate the situation. The action is taking effect: The LA City Council is considering an end to the anti-Mural policy. It is a battle they can not win anyway. Finally, street art thrives on to conquer the streets without permission. Since 2002, hundreds of illegal work in every corner of the city have appeared. "Street art is the language of youth culture," says museum director Deitch, "and we can not stop."

Lab Art Presents: 'Haus of Art Banditz' Street Art's Night Out
http://redcarpettips.com/lab-art-presents-haus-of-art-banditz-street-arts-night-out

You find yourself walking down La Brea Boulevard in Los Angeles, bound and determined to stumble upon one of the many art parties that a Saturday night in LA has to offer. Your jaw drops at the sight of this building you almost walk past. Hidden behind a glass wall are the colossal light bulb letters LAB ARTwinking at you oh-so-seductively. What could be in here?
LAB Art is the largest gallery in the nation solely dedicated to street art. With over 6,500 square feet of space, the gallery exhibits about 300 works created by 30 different artists. The gallery offers art collectors and art lovers a dynamic roster of vibrant and thought-provoking exhibitions from world renowned urban artists including: Alec Monopoly, Smear, Destroy All Design, Kai Aspire, Thank You X, Mar, Army of One/JC2, Dog Byte and Sean D’Anconia, to name a few. LAB Art is also home to street artists on the cusp of global notoriety such as CYRCLE Brand, Carly Wise, LOUD Labs and Sarah’sINCOGNITO.
“HAUS of Art Banditz” is tied to the string of Art’s Night Out parties the gallery hosts in different locations every month. The goal is to present art lovers and newcomers with good food, live installations and the opportunity to witness art and culture from various perspectives of the human experience; peace, war, love, oppression, empowerment, hope and political and social change are just a few of the themes that artists portray in their works featured at LAB Art. LA’s notorious tattoo artists Black Banditz brought its brand to the ‘HAUS of Art Banditz’ event via a live tattooing for all the attendees to participate in. Head Bandit and owner of the Melrose tattoo parlor,Dan Regan, gave RedCarpetTips.com insight about the Black Banditz crew and his personal style.
LAB Art partnered with several vendors and affiliates to help host the ‘HAUS of Art Banditz’ party. Straight from the pages of NYLON Magazine, Rony’s Photo Booth came out to cover the event and supplied the guests with personalized photos to take home. To satisfy the appetites of attending foodies, LAB Art invited LA-based CoolHaus ice cream truck to set up shop in the back of the gallery where they handed out bigger than bite-sized ice cream sandwiches for free. Also joining in on the fun was LA’s own KROQ radio station.
